Methodology

KitchenMathHub separates exact measurement math from culinary references, appliance estimates, and food-safety targets. Important values keep source provenance so the site can explain why a result was produced.

1. Exact unit conversions

Conversions within one physical dimension use defined mathematical relationships. Examples include grams to ounces, inches to centimeters, and exact Celsius-to-Fahrenheit conversion. These do not depend on the ingredient.

2. Culinary volume-to-weight references

Cups and spoons measure volume while grams measure mass. KitchenMathHub therefore requires an ingredient reference for conversions such as cups of flour to grams. When reputable references differ, the site keeps a declared default rather than silently averaging values.

3. Practical cooking conventions

Some useful cooking conversions are conventional rather than exact. For example, 350°F equals about 176.7°C mathematically but is commonly represented as a practical 180°C oven setting. The calculator keeps exact math and cooking conventions separate.

4. Estimates and ranges

Air-fryer times, fan-oven adjustments, and similar cooking transformations are starting estimates. The result can use food-specific profiles, check-at times, and warnings, but it does not claim identical performance across every appliance.

5. Food safety

Safe internal-temperature targets are stored separately from cooking-time estimates. Reaching an estimated finish time never overrides an applicable food-safety target.

6. Recipe transformation

The Recipe Workspace keeps the parsed original recipe unchanged. Transformations operate on normalized raw quantities and practical rounding happens at final presentation, reducing cumulative drift when a recipe is scaled and converted multiple ways.

7. Reference coverage

The calculators can use a broader ingredient and food reference library than the set of dedicated reference pages. A separate page is created when it can add useful context, examples, tables, and source explanation beyond the calculator result itself.
